Below-average rains marked the third consecutive drought, driving significant negative impacts in agricultural areas. The drought has caused food insecurity, poor crop and livestock production, resource-based conflict, livestock disease and mortality. As of right now, 130 of our church partners, made up of over 10,000 Compassion-assisted households, are being impacted by the drought. Across the entire country of Kenya, it is estimated that 2 million households are being affected. This drought has been declared a national disaster. Please pray that God would provide for affected children and families. Pray that they would experience God’s peace and comfort in this time and that rain would come quickly.
Update #2: October 5, 2021
The drought situation in Kenya is worsening and approximately 2.1 million people are severely affected by food insecurity. Access to water, decreased crop and livestock production, and disease continue to be dire issues. To date, 8,235 Compassion beneficiaries and their families have been affected as well as 116 CDCs. The Compassion Kenya National Office will provide updates as they become available.
Please continue to pray for food, water, and safety for the affected beneficiaries and their families. Please pray for all the people that have been impacted by the drought.
Update #1: September 17, 2021
Severe drought conditions in Kenya continue due to below average rainfall. An estimated 2 million households in Kenya have been impacted so far. To date, 4,585 Compassion beneficiaries and their families have been affected as well as 57 CDCs. The drought continues to negatively impacted crop and livestock production. The most immediate needs include: food assistance, water for household and livestock use, veterinary services for livestock, supplementary livestock feed, expansion of irrigation system support, and health screenings. Government entities are providing food, water, health assistance, and livestock disease control. The Compassion Kenya National Office will continue to assess the situation and report updates as they become available.

Disaster Alert: September 8, 2021
The Compassion Kenya National Office has reported worsening drought conditions in the country and the crisis has been declared a national disaster. Due to the drought situation, food security has deteriorated and an estimated 1.4 million people have been affected. Kenya government officials are working on efforts to assist affected households. The Compassion Kenya National Office is closely monitoring the situation and will provide updates as they become available.
