How We Help Unsponsored Children

Approximately 260,000 children are enrolled in Compassion programs while they wait for a sponsor. When we register a new child, it takes an average of three months to find a sponsor for that child. Because of the Unsponsored Children fund, these waiting children may receive some of the same benefits as sponsored children right away.

Your donation will speak hope into the hearts of many children by supplying critical resources and the opportunity to be included in a Compassion program while they wait for a sponsor. That’s what this fund is really all about – standing in the gap on behalf of children living in poverty.

EVERYDAY, WE HELP CHILDREN LIKE VALERIE

Valerie Nikiema was enrolled in her local Compassion project for two years while waiting for a sponsor.

During her wait, Valerie wrote a colorful letter to her future sponsor every Thursday while praying for God to send her a real life sponsor. In two years, Valerie wrote 64 letters to a special person she’d yet to meet. Sadly, many were never sent.

Today, Valerie has a sponsor! She joyfully sends new letters to her sponsor, who has sent several pictures and letters back in response. Today, Valerie and her sponsor share a very special bond.

Your donation to the Unsponsored Children’s fund gives Child Development Center workers the resources to provide for children like Valerie, teach them about God’s grace and plan, and give them hope they will soon have a sponsor.

Unsponsored Children's Fund

Although children who are newly registered into Compassion's program are available almost instantly for sponsorship, more often than not it takes time to connect a sponsor with a child — often several months. Compassion is committed to helping registered children from day one. So to bridge the gap between registration and sponsorship, we created the Unsponsored Children's Fund. The fund delivers stability through sponsorship benefits such as:

learning or educational opportunities
Christian training
social development

The children's parents and program staff take heart when they see Compassion benefits at work for the children they love, even as they wait and hope for sponsors.
